AOC Dismisses Skyrocketing Crime, Doubling Down on Defunding the Police

If you’ve been living anywhere but under a rock these past few months, or year really, you’ll know that crime is on the rise. Since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, last May, crime has surged in just about every big city in the nation, thanks to the political left’s push to defund the police.

However, it seems the very same people pushing for police to be eradicated are the ones unwilling to recognize the threat of rising crime in America.

And for radical liberals like New York’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, she’s unwilling to believe that crime is even a problem. To her, the data proving such numbers is all part of the media pushed “hysteria” meant to cripple her party’s move to the left.

Think I’m kidding?

Check out this Zoo video call between AOC and fellow left-winger and New Yorker Jamaal Bowman.

As you can see, she claims it’s all nonsense, as if the numerous tweets, videos, messages, and police reports suggesting such prevalence of crime is all made up.

She said, “We are seeing these headlines about percentage increases. Now, I want to say that any amount of harm is unacceptable and too much, but I also want to make sure that this hysteria, you know, that this doesn’t drive a hysteria and that we look at these numbers in context so that we can make responsible decisions about what to allocate in that context.”

Basically, she says that none of these crime reports are real – that the media, who has staunchly supported her and hers, is now making things up to hurt her agenda.

Take a report by the ever-left-leaning New York Times, for instance, that admits “homicide rates in large cities were up more than 30 percent on average last year, and up another 24 percent for the beginning of this year.”

Or what about a report about the shooting of an innocent bystander, a 21-year-old Marine, in Times Square on Sunday?

And of course, I have to mention all the violence that has taken place in Chicago the past few weekends.

This past weekend, over 70 people were shot in the city, 5 of them fatally. Last weekend, another 49 were shot and again five killed. And the weekend before that: another 43.

And yet, to AOC, these are all made-up lies, a figment of the imagination.

In her video call, she rambled on about how the media, for reasons unknown, has been driven to “perpetuate this idea of crime wave, crime wave, crime wave, right? And so this idea that a lot of us are panicked, thinking that we are at some unprecedented level that we’ve never seen before.”

I’m sorry, how else would you describe weekends where nearly or over 50 people are shot in just one city. When a 21-year-old Marine sightseeing in Times Square gets shot by a ricocheting bullet, and in broad daylight no less, wouldn’t you call that a problem?

But of course, AOC doesn’t see it that way. According to her, cities like NYC, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Chicago, Portland, and others aren’t any worse off since they all moved to defund the police.

According to her, the $1 billion she demanded be taken away from the New York City Police Department last year was being wasted. Better it go to social services and such than someone who might actually be able to stop a crime or protect innocent lives.

Then again, maybe she’d see the imaginary “crime waves” if she dared to step outside without her personal security staff.

Yeah, that’s right. While AOC goes about spouting off ideas about hysteria being created by the media over crime, she spent some $39,000 on personal security in the first quarter of this year alone, per the Federal Election Commission records.

And most of her fellow ‘squad’ members have spent a similar amount this year so far for increased security.

Quick question: if crime isn’t increasing, then why the need for more security?

And all while saying we don’t need police or law enforcement…

What a load of crap.
