Remember back in March when the COVID-19 virus was peaking in China? At the time, according to “official” Chinese government data, around 50,000 people were infected with the COVID-19 virus in the City of Wuhan, with around 2,500 reportedly dying from the virus.
In reality, these numbers were false and part of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) coverup attempt. While the CCP reported only 2,500 deaths in Wuhan, tens of thousands of urns were shuttled through the city to move the cremated remains of virus victims, as reported by the New York Post, Bloomberg News, and other outlets.
Much of the U.S. media were ready players in the CCP’s propaganda game, serving as marionette mouthpieces in the CCP’s Potemkin village is presented to the world. Fast forward to today and not much has changed.
We’re now in November, eleven months after China unleashed a deadly virus on the world, and the CCP’s propaganda machine is working overtime. Among the propaganda initiatives the Chinese communists have commissioned to trumpet their recovery and gloss over the coverup, are a six-hour documentary series displaying the “heroic deeds of party members” and Wuhan’s “warriors in white coats”; a 20-part TV fictionalized drama starring Wuhan’s doctors, delivery drivers, and construction workers; and, not to be done, an opera entitled “Angel’s Diary,” sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which pays tribute to the doctors on the frontlines at the start of the pandemic.
It’s safe to say the coverup will not be televised.
Li Wenliang, the Chinese doctor and whistleblower who first reported the virus in Wuhan, wasn’t available for comment because he is dead.
This is all part of the CCP’s attempt to transmogrify Wuhan, once the epicenter of the virus, into a triumphant and glorious phoenix of Chinese resilience and recovery.
According to the CCP’s data, cases in Wuhan and nationwide in China now hover near zero. Meanwhile, the U.S., Europe, and other countries around the world continue to battle a surge of cases.
CCP officials got a jumpstart on the propaganda race as early as February, while the dead bodies were still fresh and piling up, when it commissioned a fictionalized show entitled “With You” which according to the party line reflects “China’s feats and achievements in fighting the epidemic with language and details that normal people can understand and feel,” per the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television.
If only the American government could move this quickly. These days we can’t pave a country road in under five years.
Meanwhile, the U.S. national media continue to credulously fawn over China’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, swallowing CCP propaganda hook, line, and sinker. It should disturb any American to see U.S. journalists praise Chinese officials for their crisis mastery, as though these journalists were paid-up talking heads for the Politburo. In theory, journalism is about getting to the truth; in practice, U.S. journalists are parroting press releases from China’s Foreign Ministry.
In other news, North Korea has zero cases of COVID-19. Because they’re either lying or they have executed everyone infected. This is the quality of the regimes America’s national media are covering for. U.S. national media must stop parroting totalitarian propaganda. The same totalitarian regimes they praise for their crisis management are the same regimes that send reporters to prison – or worse, kill them – for attempting to report the truth.
