Build the wall. It was a simple plan for every president before the last one. It wasn’t even a controversial issue that the border between the United States and those who want to enter it illegally should be a strong one.
However, Democrats have, over time, become more and more lax, understanding that new or illegal immigrants can be convinced to vote for them, and thus they’ve started to back away. but it was a quiet backing away, where they still claimed to want strong borders because they know how insane saying we shouldn’t have them would be.
And then, it became a key issue for the rabble-rouser known as our 45th president, Donald J. Trump, and everyone was allowed to firmly take sides, and liberals no longer believe in borders.
It’s all flower chains, hippy-dippy “no one would ever smuggle a child into the United States” and “gang members are few and far between” or my personal favorite “shouldn’t we let them come if it’s in search of a better life?” Well, the truth is that nobody is worried about the people who cross the border in search of a better life, we’re only worried about the people who cross who want to take your life, and your freedoms by voting for a government that will give away all your tax dollars just to stay in office another term.
But then something interesting happened: The rubber met the dirt, Rio Grande adjacent road, and all the flower power in the world couldn’t keep even the most liberal administration on record from picking up what is, in essence, the mantra of former President Donald Trump, and building the wall.
According to a report in The Daily Wire, at least one very mainstream source reported that Democrat President Joe Biden reversed his order that stopped the construction of Trump’s border wall, allowing it to resume construction in the state of Texas.
“Fox News has confirmed via the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that construction on a 13.4 mile stretch of border wall in the Rio Grande Valley will *RESUME* after pressure from local residents & politicians,” Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin wrote on Twitter. “The Biden admin previously halted all wall construction in Jan.”
This news comes as the administration is constantly questioned as to how they plan to deal with what is undoubtedly a crisis at the southern border (no matter who refuses to call it that) with record-breaking numbers of illegal aliens flooding over the border, with so many being young men in the correct age to implement damage if their motives are not pure.
According to the Wire’s report, however, not everyone on the project was excited to talk about it in terms of the previous administration. Around an hour after the bombshell report came down the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) responded to Melugin, writing: “In support of CBP’s border infrastructure program, USACE has resumed DHS-funded design & construction support on approx. 13.4 miles of levees in the Rio Grande Valley that were partially excavated or at various levels of construction when work on the wall was paused for review.
“To be clear, wall construction remains paused to [the] extent permitted by law,” USACE added. “Per DHS, we’ve started critical work to repair the Rio Grande Valley’s flood levee, which was excavated to make way for the border wall. This remediation work will not involve expanding border barrier.”
Will there be a more extensive barrier in place when the workers leave? Time alone will tell. Will the levees built somehow make it more difficult for those swimming the river to do so? We don’t yet have enough facts to say. But if recent months have taught us anything it’s that sometimes you can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need.
