As you have likely heard, Chicago, Illinois, has become a hotbed of crime over the last few years. Now, to be sure, crime rates in metropolises like the Windy City are always a bit higher than those in less populated areas. But what we have seen over the past couple of years exceeds pretty much all known expectations and nearly breaks every single record in the history of not only the city but the nation as a whole.
And all of it is happening right under the nose of the not-so-watchful Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot.
Naturally, law-abiding citizens and crime victims in the city are begging for better protections, more penalties to crime, and a city leader who back them and not the criminals up.
Joe Perillo, owner of Perillo’s Gold Coast Exotic Motor Cars, is one such individual.
According to CWBChicago, two men were caught on camera on December 11, enacting a smash and grab, something all too familiar in the city. After the damage was done, it was estimated that at least some $1 million in luxury watches were stolen.
Perillo was naturally upset about the whole thing. And he had every right to be. And so, like any right-minded businessman or even homeowner, he called for justice and immediate action to be taken, not only to find the two men responsible for this specific instance but also to prevent such crimes from happening to anyone else.
Like most of his fellow Chicagoans, he is tired of getting bullied, pushed around, stolen from, and even murdered with no real consequences ever being threatened, let alone put into action.
Perillo told CWB, “It’s only a fool who keeps doing things the same way and expects different results. If the Mayor and Kim Foxx don’t do anything to get control of this, it’s not going to get any better. It’s going to get worse.”
And to be sure, he isn’t wrong.
In fact, the current crime rates in the city are proof of that. As I referenced above, crime rates in Chicago have always been a bit higher than average. But over the past few years, it seems they have skyrocketed.
One might have thought that Chicago, like everywhere else, began seeing these massive jumps because of the now-infamous Black Lives Matter riots and the subsequent calls for police to be defunded that spread like wildfire around the nation, causing enormous destruction.
And to some degree, that reasoning is correct.
Riots were born that gave criminals an excuse of sorts to do their dirty deeds. And those calls to limit, if not abolish law enforcement completely, only gave crime a leg up. But as most cities and their leadership have learned, crime doesn’t pay. And so police departments have been refunded, and hiring sprees enacted.
But in cities like Chicago, where Neo-Marxist groups have taken hold, and leaders like Lightfoot have bought into them, the story has only gotten worse.
In fact, rather than condemning such violent acts, those like Lightfoot only seem to be fanning the flames, which might have a lot to do with why she paid Perillo a personal visit just days after he called her out for not doing her job.
And no, she wasn’t car shopping.
According to CWB, Lightfoot showed up at Perillo’s place of business. Mind you, it was not to check out the damage or make sure her office was doing all that they could to help but to have a little chat with him. And apparently, it didn’t go too well.
As one source reported to an outlet, the two got into a verbal fight, ending with the mayor walking out in a huff. Another said that Lightfoot was even heard calling Perillo an “idiot” as she stormed out.
And then, just a few days later, Perillo’s showroom was paid a visit by another city official, this time an inspector from the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection. After being there for just a short time, the inspector gave Perillo four tickets for six violations, two of which were allegedly health-related.
Of course, Lightfoot’s office claims that the inspection was due to an anonymous complaint and not her obvious displeasure with the man.
Yeah, because that’s likely…
In any case, it’s become clear that Lightfoot doesn’t have a problem with the crime in her city, so long as it keeps her in power. But with so many Perillo’s out there who are growing ever more tired of being trampled on, it’s not long before Lightfoot’s power is stripped from her and her ilk.
