The issue of immigration may seem like a forgotten topic to many Americans because it is not being talked about in the news with COVID-19 and terrorists ravaging the country. But the issue is very much alive. Border agents still fight drug smugglers and human trafficking every day. But they have been able to focus more on those issues than having to process the torrent of people that want to enter the country through a loophole. The changes that the president has introduced are effective and now it looks like things are going to get better for all Americans as the president signs a proclamation that limits the number of immigrants that can enter the country each year.
The new proclamation will limit the number of people that can enter the United States for the rest of the year. President Trump wrote “… between February and April of 2020, more than 17 million United States jobs were lost in industries in which employers are seeking to fill worker positions tied to H-2B nonimmigrant visas. During this same period, more than 20 million United States workers lost their jobs in key industries where employers are currently requesting H-1B and L workers to fill positions.” The whole point of the rule is to put Americans first.
This proclamation is right in line with his 2016 campaign promise to make America great and to put American first. Even when people are rioting, the president is still making their lives better. He believes that as the economy recovers the American worker should get the first crack at the jobs. Those that live abroad will have to wait until there is a place for them. Of those affect the rule targets “an H-1B or H-2B visa, and any alien accompanying or following to join such alien; a J visa, to the extent the alien is participating in an intern, trainee, teacher, camp counselor, au pair, or summer work travel program, and any alien accompanying or following to join such alien; and an L visa, and any alien accompanying or following to join such alien.”
This is great news for Americans but terrible news for the Democrats. This is just another way that President Trump is putting people before himself. There is no reason to make non-Americans rich while millions are struggling to find work as they recover from the Democratic push to keep people out of work. COVID-19 did a lot of damage, but the policies of the president are counteracting much of the holes created by the virus.
The critics were quick to attack the president. Anti-Trump Twitter would write that “This proclamation undermines America’s greatest economic asset: its diversity. People from all over the world come here to join our labor force, pay taxes, and contribute to our global competitiveness on the world stage.” Twitter has no concept of what people need. They are more concerned with non-American than they are about citizens that make the country run.
There is no reason to bring back foreign workers that do not contribute to the recovery. Any money they make is sent back overseas. A White House official would state that “That’s a tired, retired talking point that one could arguably debate in a pre-COVID world, but post-COVID where there are a lot of Americans looking to get back, looking to rebound, there are plenty of job opportunities there and companies should look there first … No one brings sand to the beach, there are a lot of good American workers so why are you bringing in foreign workers that, at this moment in time, aren’t necessary.” Immigrants are the current that keeps stealing the sand that the president lays out to rebuild the country.
President Trump is making the right moves to help the country be better than it ever has been. His policies and actions are consistent with the promises he made to the American people in 2016. He is a man of his word and he will continue to do the job he was elected to do which is to make America greater than it was before.
