It is said there is nothing quite as dangerous as a mother defending her child. And for First Lady Melania Trump, it could not be more accurate. The usual gentle and mild-mannered host of the White House had no problem coming to her son’s aid this week as his name was made a joke of during Wednesday’s impeachment hearing.
And she was not shy about it either.
She tweeted, “A minor child deserves privacy and should be kept out of politics.” And she continued, calling out her son’s assailant, “Pamela Karlan, you should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering, and using a child to do it.”
The Standford law professor had been called to the stand as a Democratic witness to discuss the constitutional limits as set forth by our founding fathers of what kind of power the president is given.
She was asked by Democratic Representative Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas what she thought the constitutional framers would think of President Donald Trump’s behavior.
Karlan said, “Kings could do no wrong because the king’s word is law. Contrary to what President Trump has said, Article Two does not give him the power to do anything he wants.” But she continued on her rant, getting even more personal… and ugly.
She said, “I will give you one example that shows the difference between him and a king, which is, the Constitution says there can be no titles of nobility. While the president can name his son Barron, he can’t make him a baron.”
And what the matter even worse was that Democrats from around the room laughed and even applauded at this.
She had just brought a 13-year-old boy into the middle of a very public and political fighting ring. And they laughed.
Naturally, Melania was not so amused.
And neither were many other people.
White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham was it was a “classless move by a Democratic ‘witness.’” And she added, “Prof Karlan uses a teenage boy who has nothing to do with this joke of a hearing (and deserves privacy) as a punchline. And what’s worse, it’s met by laughter in the hearing room. What is being done to this country is no laughing matter.”
And Trump’s campaign spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany had similar words to say.
“Only in the minds of crazed liberals is it funny to drag a 13-year-old child into the impeachment nonsense. Pamela Karlan thought she was being clever and going for laughs, but she instead reinforced for all Americans that Democrats have no boundaries when it comes to their hatred of everything related to President Trump. Hunter Biden is supposedly off-limits according to liberals, but a 13-year-old boy is fair game. Disgusting.”
Disgusting is right.
Who in their right mind thinks it’s ok to make fun of a child for simply being born into the family of a man who is currently the president?
McEnany said it right, only crazed liberals.
Jeanine Pirro also chimed in, tweeting, “Pamela Karlan is so consumed w her hateful leftist ideology, that she not only hurt an innocent child in her effort to destroy a president, she exposed her evil, angry heart.”
Which is precisely what she did. She, for her and her cohorts talk of justice and doing the right thing, said a hurtful nasty thing about a child just to try and swing a little more support to her agenda.
Only it’s not helping her case, as Republican Representative Matt Gaetz from Florida says.
“You don’t get to interrupt me on this time!… When you invoke the president son’s name here, when you try to make a joke out of referencing Barron Trump, that does not lend credibility to your argument. It makes you look mean.”
Now, Karlan did later apologize for what she said if only in a half-hearted manner, all while trying to make a point about her distaste for Trump.
She said, “I want to apologize for what I said earlier about the president’s son. It was wrong of me to do that.” But she added, “I wish the president would apologize for the things that he’s done that’s wrong, but I do regret having said that.”
If the $10,000 she donated to Clinton and Obama and the fact that she won’t even walk on the same side of the street as the Trump International Hotel, doesn’t say enough about her bias, this certainly does.
