As you have likely heard by now, billionaire Elon Musk recently bought out Twitter, the social media giant. While new ownership is not necessarily big news for companies such as this one, what is rather controversial is that Musk has made several comments about making changes to Twitter and, more specifically, its content policies.
If you hadn’t figured out, Musk is a lover of free speech. In fact, in recent months, he’s gone so far as to call himself a “free speech absolutist.” Basically, it means he doesn’t really care what you are saying so much as you have the right to communicate or express it.
Naturally, this has sent much of Twitter’s staff into quite a tizzy, believing they will not only be fired but that drastic changes will be coming their way, including policies that will no longer allow them to control the narrative and censor those that they might agree with.
But it seems those at Twitter aren’t the only ones worried about such.
Additionally, it would seem that a number of rather left-leaning civil society groups have taken an issue with the possible changes Musk could make. And in doing so, they are now encouraging major brands who promote their products on the platform, such as Coca-Cola, Kraft, Disney, etc., to boycott Twitter if it gives in to Musk’s demands.
According to CNN, a letter was sent from more than 20 of these civil society groups to various brands asking them to partner with Twitter against Musk’s possible changes, getting the social media giant to promise that they will keep their current policies on civic integrity and what some would deem ‘hateful’ conduct on the site.
And if Twitter does not or cannot promise such, the letter encourages the brands to pull both their funding and advertising money from the company.
As the letter claims, “Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter will further toxify our information ecosystem and be a direct threat to public safety, especially among those already most vulnerable and marginalized.” Basically, they are worried that Musk will allow all walks of life, even those on the political right, to voice their opinions and gain support.
And so, they are demanding that Musk not be allowed to make changes in that direction.
“As top advertisers on Twitter, your brand risks association with a platform amplifying hate, extremism, health misinformation, and conspiracy theorists. Your ad dollars can either fund Musk’s vanity project or hold him to account.”
Now, to be clear, while Musk has made statements about changing things at Twitter, not even the purchase deal is completely finalized yet, let alone a written expression of all that he may or may not change. This means that while these groups may have cause to worry, it might indeed be all for naught.
In any case, Musk isn’t about to take these threats lying down.
And so he’s calling for an “investigation” into those who started suggesting the boycott. He asked on Twitter, “Who funds these organizations that want to control your access to information? Let’s investigate…”
And in the coming hours, it was learned that two major leftists seem to be behind it all.
First and foremost is unsurprisingly the anti-American billionaire George Soros. The New York Post reported that the second is none other than Hillary Clinton or “former Clinton operatives.
Additionally, it was noted that the European Union and the Canadian government seem to have a part in at least some of these civil society groups.
I know you’re shocked… Not.
I mean, these are the very same people believed to be behind the whole “Russia Collusion” theory, the January 6 lies, the 2020 election fraud cases, and, of course, the ongoing coverup of anything Biden and his ilk do wrong.
As Musk replied on Twitter, he will “call” Soros and “ask” him about his possible involvement. Chances are he’ll do the same with the rest.
In any case, he’s making it quite clear that he isn’t fond of people going after him, his ideas on free speech, or his newly acquired company. And that doesn’t bode well for his attackers.
