Biden Nominee Facing Backlash for Unethical Loan

(UnitedVoice.com) – Remember when Democrats used to say they wanted to get money out of politics, claiming it was destroying our republic? It seems as though they’re not feeling the same now that President Joe Biden is in office. In fact, it’s the Republican Party trying to ensure people with questionable financial histories do not work in the White House. Most recently, Conservatives spoke out against the president’s nominee for director of the Bureau of Land Management.

On June 8, Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) raised ethics concerns about Tracy Stone-Manning. The nominee reportedly received a “heavily discounted personal loan while serving as a congressional staffer.” Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) is also concerned about the $50,000 to $100,000 loan she took out while she worked for Senator Jon Tester (D-MT).

Stone-Manning has said she received the loan from a family friend, Montana Developer Stuart Goldberg, while she was struggling during the recession. The loan had an interest rate (6%) that was way below market rate (11%). Marshall asked if she thought it was a conflict of interest, but she denied it. Lawmakers want to know if she had official dealings with Goldberg while working for the senator and if she knew the loan rate was so low.

In other words, did she use her position to obtain a favorable loan from a developer and will that impact the way she handles her job if she’s in charge of land management? She claims it won’t, but Republicans want more than just her word.
