Woke, Liberal, Troll, and Other Words to Make Sense of Left and Right Insults

The left and right tend to sling insults back and forth at each other constantly. The problem is, most of these insults don’t even translate into real words anymore.

Exactly what is woke? What words are insults and what words are just a new way of saying “Republican” or “Democrat?”

It’s time to understand it, once and for all.

First, it’s important to understand the definitions given to some of the different generations.

The Silent Generation is those born before 1945. Although this generation has plenty to say, they’re referred to as “silent” because children of this era were expected to be seen and not heard.

Baby boomers are those that were born between 1946 and 1964. They’re commonly referred to as “Boomers” by the younger generation, and it’s typically an insult for being old and not updated on the latest and greatest terms. The Silent generation will often get labeled as boomers, too.

Generation X often referred to as X-ers or even xennials, are those born between 1965 and 1980.

Generation Y, often referred to as millennials, was born between 1981 and 1994. The term “millennial” is often considered an insult as they’re deemed as the ones that like to complain the most and the ones that are most easily offended.

Finally, there’s Generation, sometimes referred to as the iGeneration. These are the ones who are just becoming of age. They were born after 1995. They’ve not known a time where the internet and smartphones didn’t exist. Therefore, they can’t contemplate the idea of having to go to the library to find something or opening an encyclopedia to learn something.

Understanding the terms of the generations can make it easier to figure out who is usually responsible for slinging the insults. If the term ‘millennial’ is used, you can almost guarantee that it isn’t a millennial writing it. And, if you get called a ‘boomer’ when walking down the street, it’s not a compliment.

The term ‘woke’ has appeared over the past few years. It’s easy to spot since it isn’t even proper English. This means that you know it was Generation Y or Z responsible for coming up with the term. When you’re “woke” it means that you’re aware of all of the most important facts and issues.

However, the GOP has come to weaponize the word “woke.” By choosing not to conform to the liberal cancel culture, you can say that you don’t want to be “woke.” Many Republicans don’t want to be “woke” because they don’t want to pay any attention to what those on the Far Left may be trying to force on Americans next.

Anyone who is affiliated with the Democratic Party may be called a Democrat. However, those who are particularly allegiant and who will support their party no matter what may also be called a “left-wing” or a “liberal.”

It works on the other side, too. Those in the Republican Party may be called “right-wing” or “conservative.”

Liberal and conservative ideals have been around for a long time. Now, they’re considered insults when used by a person on the other side of the political spectrum from you.

That being said, many liberals will take offense to being called “liberal.” Meanwhile, many conservatives could care less if you call them “conservative.”

Conservatives will also use the word “extremist” as an insult when talking about moves made by the Democratic party.

Liberals will refer to Republicans as “trolls.” When referring to a “troll,” it means that it’s someone who is on social media just looking to start an argument. If someone talks positively about Joe Biden, there will always be one troll who will point out why the poster’s statement is incorrect.

It can be difficult to keep up with all of the new terms being thrown around. Knowing them, however, ensures that you know who is insulting who and if there’s any hate being thrown in your direction.
